Vita
Born 1974 in Kassel, works as a composer, performer and media artist. His aesthetic focus is on the recontextualization of social, mediatic, performative, spatial, biographical, political and physical conditions of music. In his compositional practice, he deliberately relies on disparate sonorities, structural imbalances and sonic diversity – often interspersed with pop culture references. Schüttler’s works are often created in collaboration with selected allies, for example the Nadar Ensemble, asamisimasa, hand werk, Ictus, Mosaik or the Trio Catch. He is also co-founder of the collective stock11 and appears together with Mark Lorenz Kysela as the electronic duo taste. Furthermore, Schüttler’s music can be heard by numerous renowned ensembles (SWR Vokalensemble, Musikfabrik, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Ensemble Modern, KNM Berlin, Ascolta, Contrechamps) and at international festivals (Warsaw Autumn, musica Strasbourg, Donaueschinger Musiktage, ECLAT, Darmstadt Summer Courses, Wien Modern). Publications, radio broadcasts, lectures, courses, performances, exhibitions and concerts worldwide. After studies in composition and music theory at the Folkwang University of the Arts with Nicolaus A. Huber and Ludger Brümmer, Schüttler was a scholarship holder at ZKM Karlsruhe and Villa Serpentara, among others. He taught at the HfMDK Frankfurt and at the Philipps University Marburg. Since 2014 he has been professor of composition at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. Schüttler lives and works in Stuttgart and Berlin.
